Why Does F3 Say a Man Needs Faith?

November 16, 2025 · Field Notes

F3 is a workout, so newcomers are often surprised to learn that its picture of a whole man includes faith, right alongside fitness and friendship. F3’s field manual is direct about why, and careful about how.

Where does faith fit in?

Why Does F3 Say a Man Needs Faith?
Fitness, fellowship, and faith.

F3 says getting yourself right has three parts: fitness, which is your relationship with your own body; fellowship, your relationships with the people around you; and faith, your relationship with your Creator. A man works on all three or he is not truly aligned. Faith, in this model, is not a bonus for the religious. It is one leg of a three-legged stool. Naming faith that plainly raises the question every newcomer asks next.

Does F3 push a particular religion?

Why Does F3 Say a Man Needs Faith?

No, and it is careful about this. The author of the Q-Source states plainly that he is a Christian and that his own understanding of faith is shaped by that. But he does not claim the Q-Source speaks only from a Christian view. Instead F3 encourages men of all creeds to build their faith, because it has found that a man without any faith struggles to get right. The reasoning is simple: a man who believes in nothing larger than himself tends to treat himself as the center of the world, and a man who thinks he is the king of everything cannot lead as a servant. Some belief in a power beyond yourself is what keeps a man humble enough to serve. If faith matters that much, the fair question is what it actually asks a man to do.

What does faith actually require of a man?

Practice, not just belief. F3 frames faith as something a man works on daily, the same way he works on his body. It names three habits: prayer, which is talking with your Creator; study, learning the foundations of what you believe; and meeting, gathering with others who share it. This one is about the first. F3 calls prayer the daily discipline of talking with your Creator in order to build faith. Like fitness, it is not built in one dramatic moment. It is built a little each day, in the ordinary practice of showing up for it.

F3 calls this Prayer, part of getting right in the F3 Nation Q-Source, the field manual for virtuous leadership that F3 is built on. Read the full teaching: f3nation.com/prayer. F3 Denver is where men practice it. Find a workout.
